Bottega Veneta F/W 2010 ::

Thomas Maier presented a collection for fall that started off deep and dark and slowly broke into bright evening wear. there was leather and black layers; pant suits, binding skirts and leggings.

the bags were typical Bottega leather (large totes and small clutches) with a tint of color, and the shoes were all wedges, following suit with the black to color theme of the collection; boots and ankle length wedge booties made way for wedge sandals in metallics.

Moschino Cheap & Chic F/W 2010 ::

Moschino Cheap & Chic presented a quick collection in Milan, presenting the looks through different women leaving a hotel (a nice triubute to the companies new Maison Moschino hotel opening in Milan.)

:: the models came out with different looks- the Chanel woman, the Hermes woman, etc. bags, a red carpet, surprised faces at the crowd (who instead of being seated were given standing room only to keep with the theme) all worked as a definite focus of "show"- with singer Pixiee Lott performing and fun easy looks to back it all up.

DSquared F/W 2010 from Milan ::

Dean and Dan Caten managed to make red latex (or leather- but it looks like latex) look kind of classy for their F/W 2010 collection. in small doses-

this collection took a couple huge steps away from the brothers design aesthetic, but i don't hate them fo rit. the collection was fun, if not halloween friendly, and different. no one wants a stagnant designer who will give you the same thing over and over. and the shoes. i wish there were close ups! ahh.

:: Nicole Phelps of Style.com. describing the stage and collection (she was not impressed, fyi)...

"On the stage behind the runway, a pair of he-men in metallic jock straps and bandages stood beside their storage tubes. In keeping with the laboratory-like setup and its Frankenstein implications, the back of a black jersey gown was embroidered with a sparkly ribcage, and skeletal silver hands gripped the shoulders of a leather hourglass dress. Somewhat less obvious was a pair of net bodysuits with red and blue beading that represented arteries and veins..."

Just Cavailli F/W 2010 ::

Robert Cavalli's F/W 2010 collection presented in Milan yesterday had no problem with mis-matching patterns and colors in a complete head-to-toe layered look. as always with Cavalli, animal print was present and mashed up with fur collars, flourescent yellow leggings, red plaid tops and skirts and patchwork oversized sweaters for both men and women.

i'm a huge Cavalli fan, as anyone who knows me can tell you (my aim sn has been Cavalli214 since what, junior high??) but I would never even attempt to carry off one of his head to toe looks and i doubt that there's many who would.... Cavalli gives you so much so that you can pick and choose. he's a genius. the end.

Burberry Prorsum F/W 2010 ::

Christopher Bailey presented a solid collection for the Burberry Prorsum F/W 2010 collection (of course, Burberry Prorsum is crack, so aptly put by my best friend...i think thats the perfect way to put it).

it was hard to look at the clothing making it's way down the runway, because the boots, clutches and bags and- pause- more perfect than perfect jackets were holding my attention. i split them up for you below. click on images to view larger.

:: F/W 2010. slim fitting trenches, knit tights, big brass buttons.

:: fashion crack. cropped and long jackets, big sheep lined "funnel" collars, belted detail from wrist to elbow, aviator supple leather... very 70's. very covetable. ahh.

:: details. classic clean make-up and soft hair. buckles, shearling, zippers. thigh-high alligator boots with racing stripe up the back, leather platform shearling-lined, messy buckled, mid calf-boots (crack. i'm a big fan of messy) and slouchy shearling-lined booties.

:: leather, alligator, long studded sling bags (used by models as a clutches- perfect) and big leather and python bags with handles and straps.

Christopher Kane F/W 2010 ::

Christopher Kane took a step away from the bigger than life animal faces and bright colors of the past couple of seasons and focused on something, it could be said, more subdued:: lace, leather and florals.

the collection revolved around the pop colors of the flowers entwining their way up the dresses, shirts and skirts of the collection- the rest of which was all black, lace, leather and topped up with lace-up booties (* the first pair in a future collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti). the sleekness of the leather pairs off well with the school-girl flounce of the a-line skits and the bright embroidered flowers that find their way onto most of the pieces.

Central Saint Martins | London ::

the Central Saint Martins graduation show during London Fashion Week went above and beyond what typical designers are showing for their own F/W RTW collections.

the student designs are bold, luxe, geometrical, structural, inspiring.... the designs that made their way down the runways give a sense of fashion of the future having a great foundation.

Charles Anastase F/W 2010::

Fall doesn't often cause designers to give us color; and if it does, it's usually subdued. but Charles Anastase broguht us vibrant, in your face, pop off the page color for his Fall/Winter RTW collection.

the collection, titled Winter Graden was a play on climate change- echoing the norm is no longer the norm. winter is warm, summer is cold. why not wear a bright blue dress in the middle of fall? it's probably going to be summer weather.

Aquascutum F/W 2010 ::

Michael Herz's F/W 2010 collection for Aquascutum was full of fitted long dresses, wool skirts and jackets.

most of the collection was belted tightly at the waist with a knotted belt. i love this effect. he also styled the models in flat silver ballet flats that tied together the entire collection.

the designer, who according to style.com took the last season off while his company was being sold, came back with a seemingly focused intent of bringing in his long sleek silhouette paired with an outdoor look.

:: he made all of these elements work.

Unique F/W 2010 collection ::

Topshop presented it's F/W 2010 Unique collection at London Fashion Week.

::the presentation was given amid a fall scene of bare branches and fallen leaves, showcased the fashion powerhouse's fall pieces; jumpsuits and boy shorts, denim, blazers and extra long sweater dresses. and the best part? all of this was presented on models as animals- messy matted hair and antlers, fuzzy eyebrows and fluffy ears.

:: curious to see how much of this makes it into the stores. fuzzy eye brows anyone?

Hakaan F/W 2010 ::

London started off, according to the many reviews and editorials, with an unexpected bang. Turkish-born London designer Hakaan Tildirim showed his collection to an uncharacteristically well-known crowd (for london standards) including Carine Roitfeld, Emanuelle Alt and Kate Moss.

Britt Aboutaleb of Fashionista commented that not only did she not know who Hakan was, but did not know why he was such a big deal. the show, i'm sure, told all.

the big-name models, including anja rubik, lara stone and natasha poly were all almost unrecognizable in some form of make-up that made their faces blue and their eyebrows practically disappear.

the collection consisted of luxe fabric and structural shapes: dresses that flowed to and from the body. very excited to see what's next for this deasigner.

McQueen to continue... ::

it has been announced that Alexander McQueen's fashion label will continue on in his absence.

:: the designer, who committed suicide at the beginning of NYFW last week, can never be replaced... but the Gucci group, who owns 51% of the company, will continue on under the McQueen name.

From the New York Times--

""PPR, the French luxury group with a controlling stake in the designer’s companies, said that it planned to build on the McQueen brand. François-Henri Pinault, its president, said: “The Alexander McQueen trademark will live on. This would be the best tribute that we could offer to him.”

Mr Pinault said that the decision to maintain the label was taken quickly after McQueen’s death and voiced confidence that the fashion house continues to hold “very important potential”.

Alexandrew Herchcovitch F/W 2010 ::

for fall/winter 2010 Herchcovitch brought in a costume feel for his collection. along with the styling and accessories the designer brought in "elements of traditional costume from various regions of the former U.S.S.R. were filtered through the designer's thoroughly urban lens: beautiful old-world silk prints became quilted motorcycle jackets; oversize metal studs (painted to resemble wood, a common embellishment in Armenia, according to Herchcovitch) trimmed delicate blouses; and ornate rhinestone embroideries added a finishing touch to tailored wool coats," according to style.com.

i loved this entire collection, so much work was obviously put in and more importantly it's obvious the designer loved every minute of that work. beautiful.

Jeremy Scott F/W 2010 ::

Jeremy Scott brought back the 80s, again. yet he upgraded it to include luscious leather, mini skirts, leather pasties helf on by suspenders and a gown with a train that beautifully hung from a silver Jeremy Scott hanger. wow.

Proenza Schouler F/W 2010 ::

the collection presented for F/W 2010 featured woven dresses, which according to style.com was created by taking photocopies of plaids, jiggling the fabrics on the copier's plate glass to create their blurred, distorted effects.

the denim they collaborated on with J Brand was featured in the show as well (not shown. view them here.) i can't wait to see them when they become available in-store at the end of the summer.

Oscar de la Renta F/W 2010 ::

Oscar de la Renta brought back 80's glam for his F/W RTW collection. the models make-up, hair, style, everything was basically an 80's beauty ad.

the hair was big, the make-up was bright, the colors were vibrant. there was fur, long skirts, embellishment, beading and glamorous gowns.

Vera Wang F/W 2010 ::

Vera Wang is a designer who, when trying to get to minimalism, gets here. black, grey and white over a solid white backdrop- her presentation was truly focused.

:: her F/W 2010 collection was full of organza, lace, fur and chiffon. her pants and blouse combos were drapped one shoulders and topped off with layered pearls. the jackets she presented were cinched at the waist over a see through piecy dress. and her cocktail dresses....they just all screamed Vera.

The Row F/W 2010 ::

Mary- Kate and Ashley Olsen presented their F/W 2010 collection of their higher end collection The Row during NYFW. the collection, like all of them, are clean, classic, luxurious, under-stated and cutting edge all at the same time. i can see the twins, and myself, wearing all of these pieces. mostly black, the designers also through in a few eye-catching white pieces and a matte blue python seen on a dress and a fold-over oversized clutch (covet).

:: the styling was basic- long flowing hair, thong flat sandals and well thought out wrap belts and clutches. the pieces worked well together in an olsen-y way, and i can only imagine how amazing they will be when you start to pull pieces yourself and work them into your own style (or my style- feel free to get me any of these.)
