if the shoe fits ::

after 50 years of Barbie, this anniversary year has lead to odes to Barbie - fashion spreads, jewelry, clothing, window displays, runway shows...

:: let me just say, i love Barbie. always have. i have boxes upon boxes of "Holiday Barbie" stacked in my parents house, all perfect.

after 50 years, and according to WWD 1 billion pairs of shoes, Barbie has teamed up with Christian Louboutin for a collection of new Barbies, new styles, and a new collection of footwear.

The designer featured her pink peep toe pump back in february at NYFW and will release Barbies Diary titled "My Year in Paris with Christian Louboutin" with the first of the 3 dolls in december, featuring images of Louboutin and Barbie in various situations as Louboutin acts as "Barbies Godfather".

:: the designer did everything from staging the images, below, to re-designing Barbie herself with his three models, which will all come in Louboutin shoe boxes- from thinning out her ankles to curving her foot more to fit in his famous pumps.

the barbies will be available exclusively at net-a-porter and barbiecollector.

McQ ::

Alexander McQueen's S/S 2010 collection, titled "Plato's Atlantis", was thought out from tip of the models scale-like ridged braids, aquatic feel and flow of the mini dresses, ice blue make-up and prosthetic scales and to the crustacean-like platform shoes.

Showstudio began the show with Nick Knight's video footage of naked model Raquel Zimmerman's in sand with snakes slithering over her body.

:: view the ShowStudio video of the show here.

the sea-monster beauties made there way down the runway in between large industrial camera's, as the collection slowly changed from brown and green reptile prints to deeper blues and aqua sea patterns as the music changed, and the models and the fabrics swayed in unison as if they were truly under water :: Raquel Zimmerman's tiny form moved in blues below pounds of snakes on the screen.

CC ::

Karl Lagerfeld's presentation for Chanel S/S 2010 was country-bumpkin/ high-fashion at its best.

image via fashionista.

as many reviewers pointed out, Karl Lagerfeld recently bought a home in Vermont, and they attribute this last collection and runway presentation to that influence. growing up in Vermont, I have to say I've never seen anything like this.

it. was. amazing.

the models chosen were perfection. Dree Hemingway :: so unbelievably classy :: Anja Rubik, Lara Stone, Sasha Pivovarova.... (who strut the runway clad in a classic Chanel jacket and wide leg pants, holding a cell phone to her messy-perfect-updo :: fyi-if in Vermont, she wouldn't be able to find reception. the casting was on point in this show.

:: Classic Chanel handbags: some highlights.

:: Backstage beauty Dree Hemingway in touseled strands and light eyes. so natural, so pretty.

:: backstage access. amazing tattoo inspired details done backstage. love the CC dripping jewelry. genius Karl!

:: Lily Allen, the new face of Chanel, performed.

:: male model Baptiste Giabiconi with models Freja Beha Erichsen and Dree Hemingway (the solo male model walked four times with Freja, and their cute couple matchy outfits and styling were beyond lust-worthy).

:: the man himself.

gone ::

Vogue UK has confirmed the "rumors" this week that Martin Margiela is no longer heading up the design of the Maison Martin Margiela label.

Renzo Rosso, who bought the company in 2002, says "Martin has not been here for a long time", confirming reports over the last year.

as i've posted in the past, his collections have been "interesting" as of late, but Margiela has always had much more mystery then the most recent collections have even been close to.

::whats next for this elusive man? One of the Antwerp Six, Margiela's designs over the last two decades have had considerable effects on the world of fashion today, from construction in haute couture, to colors and shoulders in the 80's through today, to textures and lines in streetwear.

known as the " last individual vision" according to designer Azzeldine Alaia, reports have come in over the last year that the Margiela collections over the last year plus have been a team effort and Margiela has long since taken a step back. International Herald Tribune published this quote by Renzo Rosso, “We are very happy with Martin, but for a long time he has a strong team and does not work on the collection, just special projects.”

Colombian designer Haider Ackermann, trained like Margiela in Antwerp, is in talks with the company to possibly step up as the head designer, working with the Margiela team that is already in place.

E ::

french fashion house Emanuel Ungaro has gone through some changes lately.

for S/S 2010 Ready to Wear, there are 5 words to describe the collection: pasties, sequins, ribs, tacky.... and LiLo.

:: yes, lindsey lohan.

Ungaro CEO let loose Esteban Cortezar when he disagreed with their newest marketing scheme of bringing in Lohan as Creative Consultant. Sidenote :: can't wait to see where this talented man ends up...

Bringing in Lohan, the company hired little known Spanish designer Estrella Archs, and gave the pair under a month to prep for the show; and it showed. Lindsey's tight as can be and skinny as can vibe shone through in every piece.

the pieces that work were those that held onto the houses signature pink and their 80's vibe, one move that did not fail them, and hearts- cute idea, done completly wrong. how tacky are pasties, really? hooker heels, ok. pasties? not okay- might as well have added some tassles.

:: every piece seemed to be out of Lohans own closet. Blazers? check. Leggings? check. bone hugging material? check. tight crotch-shot-ready dresses? check.

oh, missing Esteban...

V & R ::

Viktor & Rolf S/S 2010.

the danish design duo's collection for Ready to Wear 2010 was full of volume. pastels, severe hair and make-up, slashes of chiffon...words can't even describe.

enjoy.

:: i covet these shoes.
